Gilbert Bonin

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Gilbert Bonin, 69, who passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Bonin was born on April 17, 1949 to the late Ernest “Pichou” Bonin and Bertha Badeaux. He retired as a manager from Wal Mart after many years of service, and then worked for Romero’s Fishing Tools. Mr. Bonin enjoyed Cajun Music, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Credeur Bonin of New Iberia; son, Donovan Bonin and wife Missy of New Iberia; daughter, Cheryl Dugas and husband Daniel of Broussard; sisters, Gloria Courville and husband Leroy of Loreauville, Irene Getsinger and husband Robert of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Pvt First Class Brayton Bonin and wife Sarah, Bryce Bonin, Baylee Bonin, Marlee Gonzales, and Jaylynn Dugas. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest “Pichou” Bonin; mother, Bertha Derouen; brother, Harold Bonin; and sister, Georgie Badeaux and Mary Mae Bonin. Pallbearers will be Daniel Dugas, Bryce Bonin, Patrick Credeur, Bryan Duplantis, Chad Courville, and Willis Owens Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Pvt First Class Brayton Bonin, Ray Owen, and Leroy Courville. The family would like to give special thanks to Iberia Medical Center ICU Dept., LTAC Unit, Grace Hospice, Dr. George Cousin, and Dr. Jennifer Malin.
