Arnaudville - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Bernell Ray Bernard, 49, who died on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Port Barre. Fr. Keenan Brown will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Leola Martin and Chanell Richard. Gift bearers will be Darlene Bernard and Cathy Melancon. Bernell had a passion for cooking, barbecuing, and entertaining his family and friends. In his free time he enjoyed caring for his pets, riding his 4-wheeler, and watching wrestling. Survivors include his daughter, Sheree Bernard of Cecilia; his fiance, Pam Latiolais of Port Barre; his mother, Janet L. Bernard of Leonville; his step father, Francis Nolan Bernard of Leonville; step mother, Joyce Elaine Bernard of Arnaudville; two brothers, Mike Bernard of Monticello, MS and Junior Bernard of Arnaudville; five sisters, Cathy Melancon of Lafayette, Darlene Bernard of Cecilia, Brenda Bernard of Arnaudville, Lisa Champagne of Arnaudville, and Leola Martin of Cecilia. He was preceded in death by his father, Leopold Bernard; his sister, Edna Lucy Bernard; his brother, Ernest Leroy Bernard; a godchild, Daniel Joseph Guidroz, Jr.; two nephews, Matthew Soileau and Lance Richard; and infant twins. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Michael Bernard, Floyd Savoie, Ted Zerangue, Travis Bergeron, Ray Bergeron, and Leopold Bernard, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Bernard and Curtis Savoie, Jr. Pellerin Funeral Home of Arnaudville (337.754.5881), is in charge of arrangements.
