New Iberia ;- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, on Friday, February 27, 2009, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Cecile Maturin Lasseigne, 86, who passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in New Iberia. ; Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. ; Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant. Kerry Roy and Joshua Roy will proclaim the readings. Gift Bearers include Briley Roy, Braeden Dore', Evan Maturin, Holden Dore', and Colin Roy. ; Mamom rose to heaven to meet God on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 4:25 PM. She died peacefully at her daughter's home with her family by her side after suffering from Alzheimer's for the last 3 years and recently a number of minor and one major stroke which made her health unstable. ; Mamom was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on September 5, 1922 to Avia Maturin and Rosalie Aucoin Maturin. On February 11, 1939 she married her sweetheart, Dozit Lasseigne. They had five children, four girls and one boy. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a very hard worker, having worked for the Iberia Parish School System for 10 years as a cook. She retired in 1987. After retirement she was always keeping busy by sewing and ironing for others. She enjoyed listening and dancing to French music, and going to the Cajun dances with her husband and friends. ; She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Lee Lasseigne Viator of New Iberia and Gloria Lasseigne Roy of New Iberia, both of whom took excellent care of her until her passing; sister, Loretta Romero and husband Roosevelt of New Iberia; brother, Clifton Maturin and wife Shirley of Breaux Bridge. She leaves to cherish her memories ten grandchildren, Lynne Viator, Cynthia Viator and her companion Ricky Bourque, Allen Viator, David Viator and wife Lisa, Bobby Viator and wife Monica, Chris Viator, Kerry Roy and wife Tina, Brian Roy and his friend Todd, Chad Roy and wife Cindy, Shanna Dore' and husband Ryan; fourteen great grandchildren, Kristi Maturin and husband Gordy, Cody Gaspard, Dylan Gaspard, Heather Viator, Ashley Romero, Brandi Romero, Taylor Viator, Dusti Ransonet, Joshua Roy, Briley Roy, Colin Roy, Cameron Roy, Braeden Dore', Holden Dore'; seven great great grandchildren, Evan and Mallorie Maturin, Elise and Da'Quan Gaspard, Dravin Lively, Sa'Nya Viator and Caine Pellerin all of New Iberia; numerous nieces and nephews. ; She was preceded in death by her husband, Dozit "Black" Lasseigne; her parents, Avia Maturin and Rosalie Aucoin Maturin; two infant daughters; one infant son; two son-in-laws, Ray P. Viator and Riley B. Roy; one grandson, Ricky J. Viator, and one brother, Adam Maturin. ; Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Allen Viator, David Viator, Bobby Viator, Chris Viator, Kerry Roy, Brian Roy, Chad Roy, and Ryan Dore'. ; The family would like to express thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and New Iberia Manor North for the care and kindness that was given to our MaMom during her sickness. We would really like to thank her granddaughter, Lynne Viator for being one of MaMom's main caretakers throughout her time of sickness. She was always there taking care of her "Sassy" grandma. ; A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 10:30 AM until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Thursday.
