Gilbert Latiolais

Catahoula - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, for Gilbert "Reuben" Latiolais, 89, who passed away on Friday, December 18, 2009 at his residence. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery, in Catahoula. Father Richard Fabre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Melanie Albert and Travis Courville. Gift Bearers will be Tayga Albert and Treylin Albert. Reuben worked as a fisherman, carpenter, and as a Captain of a dredge boat during his life. A veteran of World War II, Reuben honorably served his country in the United States Army, having received the Bronze Medal and he was recently honored for his service to his country, by Governor Bobby Jindal. Reuben enjoyed watching baseball, dancing, and cooking for his family and for many benefits with the local Catahoula cooks. Survivors include one son, Andy Latiolais and his wife, Bonnie, of Breaux Bridge; two daughters, Debbie Broussard and her husband, Fulton, "F.J.", and Abagail Champagne and her husband, Ronnie, all of St. Martinville; one brother, Gabriel "ToTo" Latiolais, of Catahoula; two sisters, Lena Frederick, of Catahoula, and Bernice Guilbeau, of Lafayette; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Theriot Latiolais; a daughter, Jenny Courville; his parents, Alfred and Anita Laperouse Latiolais; three brothers, Phermine "Fuzzy", Claude, and Ramie Latiolais; and one sister, Lucy Savoy. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Dion Hall in Catahoula from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Monday and continue at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday evening. Pallbearers will be Justin Charpentier, Travis Courville, Jason Courville, Kevin Broussard, Chance Latiolais, and Bozo Verret. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Blanchard, Willis Boudreaux, and ToTo Latiolais. Pellerin Funeral Home, (337.332.2111) is in charge of arrangements.
