Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum. Gussie was born on March 8, 1910 , having lived her life to the fullest and loving her family unconditionally. She loved and treasured every moment she had while taking care of her grandchildren, always wanting to guide and prepare them for what lied ahead in their lives. An especially wonderful cook, she enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings and special occasions. Gussie always made time in her busy day to sit down and watch her favorite television shows: her soap operas, 'The Price is Right,' and 'Wheel of Fortune.' Gussie would often reminisce of the years of trials and tribulations of growing up in the early 1900's to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, telling them how easy their life is now as compared to when she was growing up. She reminded them of how fortunate they are now and how they should appreciate the material things they have been given in life, as well as getting a good quality education and making use of it. Her inspiring words of wisdom, in which she lovingly shared with her family and dearest friends, will forever be treasured and remembered. Survivors include two daughters, Velma 'Gin' Johnson and JoAnn "Susie" DeGray, both of St. Martinville; three sons, Aaron 'A.J.' Flegeance, of St. Martinville, and Jason 'Boozie' Flegeance, Sr., of New Iberia, and Calden (Marion) Francis, of St. Martinville; two sisters, Bernice Bernard, of Lafayette, and Myrtle Ned, of St. Martinville; 24 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 34 great-great grandchildren.
