New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Gussie Marie Hebert Vice, 86, who passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, in New Orleans. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. Lectors will be Baylee Couvillon and Emily Terrell. Gift Bearers include Morgan Couvillon and Ethan Fontenot. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Nativity Rosary Group, will be prayed at 10:00 am Thursday. Gussie Vice was born on November 27th, 1933 in Abbeville, LA and was a long-time resident of New Iberia, LA. She was an avid gardener and spent most of her time enjoying being outside. She loved the LSU tigers and even had a small LSU Christmas tree in her home every year. Gussie was a talented cook, most famous for her gumbo and “poor man’s meal”, which the grandchildren would fight over. She was a feisty little lady with a “can do” attitude and loved to do things for herself. Gussie loved her grandchildren most of all and will be dearly missed. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Wiltz John Vice; daughters, Keren Viator, Phyllis Terrell (John), Selina Rhodes; grandchildren, Christine Couvillon, Yvonne Fontenot (Cody), Emily Terrell, Jonathan Terrell, Alyce Babineaux, Mark Babineaux, Rhiannon Vice Beers (Eddie), Elizabeth "Liz" Breaux (Mark); great grandchildren, Morgan Couvillon, Baylee Couvillon, Ethan Fontenot, Miguel Vice, Kymani Vice, Leonard Vice, Malaki Breaux, and Nilez Breaux. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elena Guidry Hebert; son, Neil Vice; infant son, Todd Michael Vice; granddaughter, Kylie Vice; and a son-in-law, Mike Viator. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Terrell, Cody Fontenot, Mark Babineaux, Joey Broussard, Mario Vice, and Sammy Babineaux. Honorary pallbearers will be John Terrell.
