St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, Louisiana , for Mazel Mire Guidry, 90, who died on July 2, 2011, at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home in Lafayette, Louisiana. Father Richard will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by her daughter, Sandy LeBlanc and husband, Larry LeBlanc. Gifts will be presented to the Altar by Danielle and Micah Morrogh. Pallbearers will be Andre LeBlanc, John LeBlanc, David Mire, Miguel Morrogh, Dustin Browning, and Rick Wilson. She is survived by her devoted husband, Curtis Guidry of Lafayette, her daughter, Sandra Mire LeBlanc and husband Larry; her son, Lucien Mire and wife Michele, 8 grandchildren, Nicole LeBlanc-Hamilton, Andre LeBlanc, John LeBlanc, Susan LeBlanc-Morrogh, Christie Wilson, Miranda Criscione, David Mire and Jennifer Browning; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her step daughter, Becky Latiolais and husband Harry; her step son Warren Guidry and wife Stella; along with 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also survived by step children of Whitney Lasseigne, JoEllen Pritchard and husband Paul, Cindy Latiolais and husband, Tommy, Tina Bourque and husband Mike, Christine Lasseigne, Sonny Lasseigne; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lucien Mire and her young son, Byron Mire. There is an oak tree standing in memorial of Byron at Evangeline State Park in St. Martinville. In addition, she was preceded in death by her 2nd husband Whitney Lasseigne, her sisters Therese Girouard and Eunice Borel, and her brothers Percy Bernard and Junice Bernard. She was a member of the Catholic Daughter's Association for 50 years, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Martin de Tours Church and for the homebound, she received the Bishop's Service Medal in 2009, she was a member of the AARP, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a certified tour guide for St. Martin Parish for 12 years; she volunteered for family and community and recited the pledge of Allegiance in French for many organizations, including the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana Senate, as an honored guest. Mazel was an avid gardener, she enjoyed making wine and won 1st place nationally with her fig and raisin recipe. She loved to dance, play cards, and spend time with her family. She loved to travel and was an avid cook. Mazel has her recipes published in 'Cooking with Cajun Women' by Nicole Fontenot and has her own cookbook published in her honor by her granddaughter, Susan LeBlanc -Morrogh. She was famous for her 'Sad Cake' and would delight her family, guests and friends with this special treat. She was beloved by family and friends alike and will be missed by all. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and continue at 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A Rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment will follow at St Michael's Cemetery in St. Martinville.
