Simon Dupuis

June 21, 1923 — September 14, 2011

Breaux Bridge - Simon 'Sim' Dupuis, 88, passed away comfortably at home with his family at 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge. Fr. Donald Pousson will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Amber Robin, granddaughter, and Brook Dupuis, grandson. Gift Bearers will be David Dupuis, godchild, and Jeanette Pickett, niece. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Simon served in the United States Army National Guard from 1948-1954. He was a member of Woodmen Of the World for over 50 years. He was self-employed as a vault builder in St. Martin Parish for over 30 years. Simon was a loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. During his younger years he enjoyed horse racing, playing Boure, dancing at La Poussierre and family vacations at the beach. He had a natural green thumb for gardening. His gardens produced an abundance of vegetables, oranges, figs, and persimmons every year which he shared with family, friends and neighbors. He loved hunting, fishing, shrimping and cooking for gatherings with family and friends. Simon taught his children to work hard, but more importantly he taught them all to play hard. Simon was everyones favorite person, uncle, brother, and brother-in-law. He had a humorous spirit about him which everyone enjoyed. After retiring he continued to garden and enjoyed going to the casino, word search puzzles, reading, spending time with his grand children and great-grandchildren, and attending family gatherings. He took a road trip to the one place he always wanted to see, the Grand Canyon , with his wife and 3 daughters. For the last 6 years, he was challenged with dementia. Although dementia is a very debilitating disease, he bravely faced its many challenges all the way to his final day. He had his 'own' way. During his final two years, his wife and children cared for him on a daily basis. It is in these final years whereby his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren learned to appreciate the gift they were given by God; a man of great character and the bravery to face any challenge ahead often with his own humor.Survivors include his four sons, Eddie Dupuis (Arlene) of Breaux Bridge, Ray Dupuis (Ludy) of Cecilia, Norris Dupuis (Barbara) of Henderson, and Keith Dupuis (Pam) of Breaux Bridge; seven daughters, Rose Dupuis of Breaux Bridge, Gail Robin (Ron) of Henderson, Nellie Dupuis of Breaux Bridge, Nancy Meche (Norman) of Arnaudville, Charlotte Dupuis of Breaux Bridge, Colleen Dupuis of Lafayette, and Allison Dupuis (Lloyd Perry) of Breaux Bridge; his sisters, Eunice Breaux of Lafayette, Margaret Breaux (O.J.) of Breaux Bridge, Florine Thibodeaux of Lafayette, Annette Quebedeaux (Lloyd) of Arnaudville, Suzanne Breaux (Calvin) of Port Arthur, TX; 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joycelyn Allemond Dupuis; his parents, Cleophas and Eva Bergeron Dupuis; his brothers, Alphe, Howard, Clerphe, Emile, and Jerome Dupuis; and his sister, Bernice Calais. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue on Saturday at 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.
