Viola was a familiar face at spelling bees, band and choral concerts, PTA meetings, award ceremonies, and Boy Scout activities.

It was through CDA that Viola became involved in working with the Catholic Medical Mission Board. She and a group of women met weekly to make hospital gowns, bandages, and soap to be shipped to and distributed by the Mission Board. Viola also made rosaries that were included in shipments.
