Viola Peltier

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Viola Courrege Peltier, 100, at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Gary Schexnayder will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM atPellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. A native and resident of New Iberia, Viola died at 6:30 PM Friday, July 13, 2012 at her home. Born on January 19, 1912, Viola was a homemaker and the mother of ten children. Always concerned with the education and development of her children, she encouraged participation in church, school, and community activities. Her support was tireless, making sure that meetings were attended and projects completed. Viola was a familiar face at spelling bees, band and choral concerts, PTA meetings, award ceremonies, and Boy Scout activities. When her family was grown and she widowed, Viola became involved in church activities and volunteering. A devout Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Come, Lord Jesus Bible Study Group. It was through CDA that Viola became involved in working with the Catholic Medical Mission Board. She and a group of women met weekly to make hospital gowns, bandages, and soap to be shipped to and distributed by the Mission Board. Viola also made rosaries that were included in shipments. Skilled at sewing and fine needlework, each year Viola created Christmas ornaments for all in her family. These are treasured and can now be found on Christmas trees near and far. Viola is survived by her children, Joyce Nereaux, Betty Peltier, Jean Landry and husband Earl, Peggy Romero, Clay Peltier, Jr. and wife Peggy, Jimmy Peltier and wife Linda, Jeannette Wilkins and husband Greg, all of New Iberia, Judy Bernard and fianc Alfred Monger of Jennings, Viola LaBry and husband Allen of Abbeville, and Glenn Peltier of Carrollton, Texas; sister, Mildred Courrege Rodrigue of New Iberia: 40 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Paul Peltier, Sr.; parents, Lucien and Theresa Drouet Courrege; brothers, Carroll Courrege and Eldridge 'Nootsie' Courrege; sisters, Marjorie Courrege Glorioso, and Dorothy Courrege Lewis; grandsons, Mark Nereaux and Jason Trehern. Pallbearers will be Clay Peltier, Jr., Jimmy Peltier, Glenn Peltier, Norman Nereaux, Brent Landry, and Todd Skinner. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Catholic Medical Mission Board, P.O.
