Albert Joseph Bourque was born in Jefferson Island, Louisiana on April 7, 1941, to the late Eddie and Helen Hulin Bourque. Albert proudly served in the Army National Guard for many years, a chapter in his life that illustrated his commitment to serving others and his sense of responsibility.
Albert dedicated his life to service, family, and an unwavering love for his job. He worked as the Receiving Manager for Fremin's Food Store for an impressive 65 years, a place that brought him immense joy and where he became a cherished member of the community. He was also known for his late-night cleaning endeavors alongside his devoted wife, Olga. Together, they shared a bond that exemplified partnership and hard work, intertwining their lives in personal and professional realms.
As a family man, Albert created lasting memories with his grandchildren, often found cheering them on as they played softball and baseball. He had a unique knack for teaching them delightful little tricks, like how to put cheese on a honeybun and microwave it for just ten seconds—simple joys that would become cherished memories for them.
Albert enjoyed many simple pleasures, including serene days spent fishing on the levee, and the thrill of cheering for the Saints on Sunday afternoons. He found happiness in the little things, and his kind nature shone brightly in every interaction, as he went out of his way to help others. His friends and family will remember him as a kind man who touched many lives, always ready with a helping hand or a comforting word.
Mr. Bourque is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Olga LeBlanc Bourque; daughters, Ginger Thibodeaux (Wayne) and Jennifer Thibodeaux (Corey); grandchildren, Kaylin Gross (Blair), Chloe Thibodeaux, Noah Thibodeaux, Wyatt Thibodeaux; great-grandson, Grayson Gross; sisters, Gloria Melancon (Larry), and Brenda Landry; and godchild, Alison Weisz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Howlett; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Landry.
Pallbearers will be Corey Thibodeaux, Noah Thibodeaux, Wayne Thibodeaux, Richard LeBlanc, Ross Fremin and David Fremin.
Honorary pallbearers are Wyatt Thibodeaux and Grayson Gross.
Mr. Bourque’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him, as a devoted grandfather, a beloved husband, and a true friend. May he rest in peace.
