St. Martinville

St. Martinville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Alfred "A.J." Joseph Robertson Sr., 80, who passed away on November 10, 2023, at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital. 

A visitation will take place at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM on Saturday. 

Fr. Abelardo Gabriel S.V.D. will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Patsy Robertson and Dora Robertson Bruno.  Gift bearers will be Lyle Robertson, Apryl Bowser and Chanell Moore.

Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Mausoleum. 

Alfred was born on April 21, 1943, in St. Martinville to Malcolm and Hazel Patterson Robertson. A.J.'s career spanned various industries, showcasing his versatility and willingness to take on any challenge that came his way. He spent many years in the oilfields as a crane operator before eventually retiring. Upon retirement, he found himself drawn to the vibrant atmosphere of Cypress Bayou Casino, where he joyfully worked alongside fellow employees and formed new connections with patrons who frequented the establishment. Additionally, A.J. contributed to the City of St. Martinville and took great pride in being the third-generation owner of the Casino Lounge.

Even after his retirement from the oilfields and subsequent ventures, A.J.'s desire to serve his community never wavered. He dedicated his time and energy to help maintain Sterling Alexander Park.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, A.J.'s vibrant personality left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross paths with him. He possessed an unparalleled work ethic that was matched only by his ability to fix anything that came across his path. There was no problem too big or small for him to tackle - he could make something out of nothing with ease.

One thing that truly endeared A.J. to others was his gift for storytelling. With every tale shared about his beloved family, he brought people together and kindled a sense of unity. His stories always captivated and entertained.

Alfred "A.J." Joseph Robertson, Sr. will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a hardworking individual, and a captivating storyteller. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, determination, and love for his community that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his children, Rachel (Carl) Moore and Alfred Joseph (Patsy) Robertson, Jr.; grandchildren, Chanell Moore, Apryl Moore (Kevin) Bowser, Lyle Robertson and Emanuel Narcisse; great-grandchildren, Karter Bowser and Khoen Bowser. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Iris Katherine Kately Robertson; parents, Malcolm and Hazel Patterson Robertson; siblings, Malcolm "Yogie" Robertson, Jr., Nelson Robertson, Kathern John-Lewis and Eloise Perkins. 

Pallbearers will be Emanuel Narcisse, Lyle Robertson, Showne Faulk, Kyle Larue, Courtney Bell and Brandon Pinkney-Buckley. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Joseph Robertson, Jr., Carl Moore, Kevin Bowser, Morris Thomas, Sr., Jason Fleageance, Caleb Thorne and Cassidy Katlely.
