Alton John Theard

June 21, 1921 — January 19, 2021

Lafayette - Alton John Theard went to his Lord on January 19, 2021, at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxime J. and Elizabeth Braun Theard; his brother, Maxime “Jake” Theard, his sistser Ruth Wolf, and his two wives, Cecile Laiche Theard and Grace Touchet Theard. He is survived by his sister, Muriel Forshag, his son, Robert Russell Theard (Lanien), his stepdaughter, Rene Hullinger and stepson Don Touchet. He had four grandsons, Brett, Brian, Clay, and Matthew Theard, and five great grandchildren, Cecile, Cydney, Clay, Harper, Matteline Theard. Al was born and raised in New Orleans. His love for New Orleans remained strong his entire life. He attended St. Peter’s High School and L.S.U. Baseball was his sport, and he played for L.S.U. in 1942 and 1943. Al was most proud of having played with Alex Box whom the stadium is named after. He has a signed L.S.U. Baseball in the L.S.U. Baseball Hall of Champions. Al and Cecile were married in 1950 at Christ the King Chapel on the L.S.U. campus. They moved to Baton Rouge shortly after and he remained there for 65 years. Cecile passed away in 1974 and in 1976 he married Grace Touchet who passed away on December 11, 2013. He was a loving and caring husband and father; sometimes stubborn, but always there for his family. He was a U.S. Naval veteran who served during WWII from 1943 - 1946. Being a salesman was his calling, and he worked for General Food Corporation for roughly 40 years. In 2014, he moved to Lafayette, Louisiana where he was a resident at Rosewood Assisted Living until his death. The family would like to thank Rosewood staff for all their help and support. Hospice of Acadiana was a gift from God and our heartfelt thanks go out to them. There will be a memorial service at St. Mary’s Church on Friday, January 22, 2021, at 10:00 am. Interment will be later at St. Roch’s Cemetery in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in his memory to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Lafayette, LA 70503. Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
