Rynella A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella for Alvin George Romero, 78, who died Thursday, December 26, 2013, in New Iberia after a long illness. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum.
Rev. Eugene Tremie will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Romero was a 1954 graduate of New Iberia High School, and had proudly served our country in the United States National Guard as a Sergeant, in Company E, 156th Infantry. He worked in the oilfield for 32 years, working for several companies including Tuboscope Wireline, Klein-Deco Wireline, Cardinal Production Logging, F & F Wireline, and then retiring from Schlumberger. Mr. Romero then worked for the Iberia Parish School Board in Preventive Maintenance retiring after 15 years of service.
Mr. Romero was a volunteer at Peebles Elementary and Cane View Elementary Schools, and was a former member of the Pastoral Council at St. Marcellus Catholic Church, and was a former Eucharist Minister. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, traveling, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Lopez Romero of New Iberia; daughters, Helana Bodin and husband Audie of New Iberia, Debra Wyatt and husband Guy of Cecilia, M. Adele Bodin and husband Larry of Broussard, Yvette Romero of New Iberia; mother-in-law, Enella Sonnier Lopez of New Iberia; brothers-in-law, Carrol Lopez and wife Belva of New Iberia, Steve Lopez and wife Terry of New Iberia; sister-in-law, Barbara Lopez Meyers and husband Darryl of New Iberia; grandchildren, Jared Wyatt, Jamie Hartwell, Kaylyn Wyatt Huval and husband Trey, Grace Wyatt, April Bodin, Amy Bodin, Wesley Bodin, Nicholas Bodin, Luke Latiolais, and Randi Latiolais; special adopted family, Jennifer, Jimmy, Charlie, and Ava Lewis; and special cousins, Thelma A. Broussard, Charles and Eva Romero.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roomey and Mildred Armentor Romero; and his father-in-law, Laz J. Lopez.
Pallbearers will be Audie Bodin, Jared Wyatt, Nicholas Bodin, Guy Wyatt, Luke Latiolais, Trey Huval, Wesley Bodin, Larry Bodin, Jimmy Lewis, and Charlie Lewis.
