Amelie Duplantis Dartez, age 71, of New Iberia, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, surrounded by love. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy defined by faith, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Known to many as Emily or “Emmie” by her grandchildren, Amelie dedicated her professional life to serving the children of Iberia Parish as a Speech Pathologist for 34 years. A graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, she discovered her calling early on and spent many years helping children find their voices, overcome challenges, and gain confidence. Her gentle spirit, patience, and genuine love for her work touched countless lives and left a lasting impact on the students and families she served.
A devout Catholic, Amelie’s faith guided every aspect of her life. She lived her beliefs quietly but steadfastly, offering kindness, grace, and love to all who knew her. Above all else, her greatest joy came from time spent with her family—especially her beloved children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Whether cheering them on, listening attentively, or simply enjoying their company, she cherished every moment with them.
Amelie will be remembered for her heart of gold, her smile that lit up every space she entered, and the way she made everyone feel seen and loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie D. Simien, and her husband Michael Simien Jr.; her son, Zachary Dartez, and wife Mary Beth Dartez; her sister Mary Romero; sister-in-law Tonia Khosropour, and husband Farzin “Fozzie”; her treasured grandchildren, Harper, Haddley, Blakely, and Amelie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen Dartez; her siblings, Wilbert F. Duplantis (Billy) and J. David Duplantis; and her parents, Wilbert and Frances Duplantis.
A memorial service will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. A rosary will be led by Our Lady’s Ladies at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be held at a later date.
Amelie’s life was a quiet testimony of love, faith, and service, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
The family would like to thank Azalea Estates, Traditions Hospice, Tyler Robicheaux, Lauren Barras, and special care givers Mrs. Mary Lou, Mrs. Katina, and Mrs. Sholanda.
