Breaux Bridge- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at St. Bernard Catholic Church honoring the life of Sister Ameline Theriot, SFCC, 84, who passed away on November 26, 2025.

A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge on Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time.

A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM on Saturday by Deacon Perry Guidry and The Catholic Daughters of America. 

Rev. Michael Delcambre will officiate at the funeral mass assisted by Deacon Perry Guidry. Readers will be Michelle Frederick and Donna Melancon. Gift bearers will be Maci Theriot and Shane Champagne.

Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2. 

Sister Ameline Theriot was a beloved educator and compassionate spirit. Born in Parks, Louisiana, Sister Ameline dedicated her life to learning and teaching, touching the hearts and minds of countless students across Louisiana and Mississippi throughout her remarkable career.

Sister Ameline began her educational journey at Parks Elementary School and continued at Breaux Bridge High School, where she laid the groundwork for her future in education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL) in 1972 and further honed her skills with certifications in learning disabilities from Dominican College in New Orleans. Sister Ameline's thirst for knowledge led her to take theology courses at Marillac College in St. Louis and pursue a master's in special religious education at Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee during the summers from 1975 to 1977.

On October 13, 1958, Sister Ameline joined the Congregation of the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament, where she dedicated 30 years of her life to service before transitioning to Sister for Christian Community in 1988. As Pastoral Administrator of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Coteau Holmes from 1979 to 1986, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her faith and community.

Throughout her illustrious career as a teacher, Sister Ameline inspired and supported her students at various schools, including Immaculate Conception in Jennings, St. Theresa in Gonzales, Sacred Heart in Pineville, St. Pierre in Carencro, St. Mary's in Lafayette, and St. Michael's Special School in New Orleans, as well as Sacred Heart School and Our Lady of Victories in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was proud to be recognized in Who's Who Among America's Best Teachers, a testament to her passion for education and her impact on the lives she touched.

She is survived by her siblings, Clarence (Ozia) Theriot, Joyce Ann Champagne and Mary Jane Ozenne; sister-in-law Joyce Theriot; brother-in-law Lawrence Dupuis; and many other family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alexie and Marie Jeanne Blanchard Theriot; siblings, Milton Theriot, Alexie (Doris) Theriot, Jr., Mildred (William) Degeyter, Aline (Herband) Guidry, Odell (Ray) Lovell, Lillian (Wilbert) Degeyter, Maydell Dupuis, Claude Theriot and Lennet Theriot; brothers-in-law Jessie Champagne and Anthony Ozenne.Pallbearers will be Randy Theriot, Shane Champagne, Gerald Dupuis, Jimmy Degeyter, Jeffery Guidry, Mack Lovell, Kenneth Theriot and Doug Frederick.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana, Denice Broussard, the team of daily care givers and to everyone who helped Sister Ameline and her family during this difficult time, those who visited, called, sent beautiful cards and the many prayers for her and her family.
