Cecilia - A Private burial will be held for Annie Hardy Calais, 92, who passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020.
Annie was born on July 26, 1927, the same day as the feast of St. Ann the mother of the Virgin Mary. She was devout Catholic, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Annie was the 12th child in a family of 12 children.
She attended elementary school in Arnaudville and in high school boarded at AIC (Academy of the Immaculate Conception) in Opelousas where she received her high school education in 1945. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education at the College of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau in 1949. Annie attended USL (now UL) and went on to continuing education throughout her life. She taught in Cecilia for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Martin Association of Retired Teachers (SMART), Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA), and National Retired Teachers Association.
Annie loved God and Mass most of all. She cherished and had a great love for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It made her happy to stay in touch with all people, friends and family from all cultures and walks of life. She had a special love for her parents, brothers, and sisters. Annie enjoyed her flowers and of course dancing, writing, storytelling, traveling, reading, and wearing lovely hats.
Annie wished to be remembered as a prayer warrior and her love for the Our Father Prayer.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Denis Calais and wife Wiladene of Arnaudville and Guy Joseph Calais and wife Tina of Cecilia; daughter, Millie Calais Darby of Lafayette; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul James Calais; parents, Joseph Human and Adelaide Pelafigue Hardy; son, Kevin Todd Calais; son-in-law, Edwin Paul Darby; brothers, Leon, infant Remi, Bruno, Samuel, Florent, Remy, Antoine, and Abel Hardy; her sisters, Erminie (Mrs. Pierre) Lormand, Marie (Mrs. Ange) Olivier, and Sr. Rita Hardy; and her "Tante" Pelafigue and Auguste "Nonco" Pelafigue.
