Born on June 29, 1937, in Breaux Bridge, LA, Autry was a devoted family man, known for his unwavering support and encouragement for his loved ones. He took immense pride in being an active presence in his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives, attending all their sporting events to cheer them on as their biggest supporter.
Autry worked as a supervisor in a salt mine, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Outside of work, he found joy in two passions: hunting and gardening. An avid duck hunter, he was especially proud of making his own duck calls, a skill that showcased his creativity and connection to nature. He also cherished spending time tending to his garden, nurturing it as one would a family.
He is survived by his son, Danny "Champ" Champagne; daughter, Mary Margaret Champagne; siblings, Wessey Champagne, Annette Berard and Anna Lee Mailey; grandchildren, Cody Champagne (Jenny), Beau (Lindley) Champagne and Brandon Champagne (Kristen); great-grandchildren, Sage Champagne, Kaden Champagne, Layne Champagne, Ali-Kaye Champagne, Alivia Champagne, Emma Champagne, Griffin Champagne, Jordyn Champagne and Sophia Champagne; and his two god children, Mark Champagne and Connie LeBlanc.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hebert Champagne; parents, Samuel and Enola Huval Champagne; brothers, Lee Allen Champagne, Roland Champagne, Raymond Champagne; and a granddaughter, Mia Champagne.
Pallbearers will be Cody Champagne, Brandon Champagne, Beau Champagne, Kaden Champagne, Layne Champagne, Griffin Champagne and Brian Champagne.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Our Lady of Lourdes for their care and compassion.
