Gail had a true gift for growing flowers and reviving even the most stubborn dying plants with her remarkable green thumb. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life-scrapbooking, playing board games, working on jigsaw puzzles, shopping at Hobby Lobby, playing in the dirt with her shovel, watching sci-fi movies, and enjoying meals with her loved ones.
An incredible Cajun cook and a wonderful baker, Gail expressed her love through food. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and tradition, where cherished recipes were shared and memories were made.
Gail was married to her high school sweetheart for 59 and a half years. She was a devoted wife who lovingly cared for her husband and their home. Together, they raised three daughters of whom they were immensely proud. Their family grew with the addition of three wonderful sons-in-law and later, Gail's greatest joys-her five grandchildren.
"Granny" loved her grandchildren with every ounce of her being and was the perfect example of a loving, involved grandmother. She cooked and baked alongside each of them, teaching her little tips and tricks and passing down her most prized recipes. Of course, the value of the time spent together was really Granny's Life Lessons. She faithfully followed their extracurricular activities and could always be found alongside them proudly cheering them on. When asked about her greatest joy, Gail always replied simply and confidently: her family.
Gail worked her entire adult life. Her first job after high school was with the St. Martin Parish School Board. She later became a manager at Landry's Restaurant before spending many years as a bookkeeper in the oil and gas industry. She deeply valued her coworkers, who became like family to her at Superior Chemical, Ambar Lonestar, and Francis Drilling Fluids.
For more than 50 years, Gail enjoyed playing Pokeno with some of her dearest friends. She treasured her neighbors and their friendship throughout the years and continued to attend luncheons with her high school classmates, sharing a lifelong "Cecilia Proud" bond.
A devout Catholic, Gail's life was grounded in faith, love, and devotion to God and her family.
She is survived by her loving husband Gerald Huval; her daughters and sons-in-law-Monica and Kevin Barker, Shawne and Chad Taylor, and Crystal and Guy Navaira; her cherished grandchildren-Braelon Taylor, Lillie and Nyla Barker, and Adisan and Morgan Navaira; and her brother and his wife-Rickey and Leona Huval.
She was preceded in death by her father, Galbert Huval Jr.; mother, Velma Broussard; step-father, Paul Broussard; two angel grandbabies; and three brothers-in-law.
Gail never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Philippe Prouet, Emily Levy, Chelsey Picard, and the entire staff at The Cancer Center of Acadiana for, not only their compassion and care, but for their genuine love for who Gail was as a person, not only as their patient. Gail faced many challenges in recent years with remarkable strength, courage, and unwavering faith, never allowing hardship to dim her spirit.
In honor of Granny's vibrant spirit, the family welcomes attendees to wear a splash of her favorite color, red, as a joyful tribute.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Barker, Chad Taylor, Guy Navaira, Braelon Taylor, Carroll Huval, and Reid Huval.
As so many have said, to know Gail was to love her. May she rest in eternal peace.
