Broussard - Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Broussard, for Bernice "Bea" Talley Hodges, who, on March 30, 2008, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate at the service.
Bea was born on November 18, 1910 and was the second oldest of nine children of Euclide and Alcide Talley. She graduated from Breaux Bridge High School and Charity Nursing School in New Orleans. She and Rupert G. Hodges were married on November 17, 1934, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Bea was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who will be fondly remembered for her big heart and fun-loving spirit. Her generosity and selflessness was a beautiful gift. She had a very special relationship with her only grandchild, Alanna Bernise Heinrichs, who was the highlight of her life. She was a wonderful caretaker for her husband and many family members and friends. She enjoyed gardening, participating in church activities, reading, and discussing politics, but was most well-known for her outstanding culinary talents in the kitchen. She also enjoyed playing cards, and in her younger days - she loved playing duplicate bridge, and to her delight, beat the Master of Bridge, Charles H. Goren.
She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard, a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, Georgia.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Heinrichs and her husband, Alan of Newnan, GA., one grandchild, Alanna B. Heinrichs, a junior at Louisiana State University, one sister, Marianne Talley Griffin of Baton Rouge; her sister-in-law, Mincy Hodges Copeland, of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews, She is also survived by her constant companion, DeeDee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert G. Hodges; a son, Robert G. Hodges; her parents, Euclide and Alcide Talley; four brothers, John B. Talley, Mitchell Talley, Dennis Talley, and Willis Talley; and three sisters, Mary Rose Coleman, Alice Talley, and Aline Soto.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
