A native and resident of Jeanerette, Berwick “B.J.” LeJeune, Jr. was born on October 8, 1933, to the late Berwick F. LeJeune, Sr. and Thelma Guillotte LeJeune. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, shaping his sense of duty and honor.

B.J. devoted his life to the land he loved, spending decades as a dedicated and respected sugarcane farmer. Farming was more than a career for him — it was a calling, one that shaped his character, work ethic, and deep connection to his community. Through years of hard work, perseverance, and stewardship of the land, he built a legacy, together with his sons, that will continue for generations. B.J. was widely recognized for his contributions to the sugarcane industry. He proudly served as a Board Member of the Jeanerette Sugar Company. His commitment to excellence earned him numerous honors, including the Iberia Parish Sugarcane High Yield Award and the Louisiana Sugarcane High Yield Award, where he was named 1st Place District Acreage Winner. In recognition of his lifelong dedication and impact on agriculture, the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce honored him for Outstanding Achievement for Outstanding Farmer.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, B.J. was known for his strong values, quiet wisdom, and unwavering dedication to family. He took pride in honest work, long days in the fields, and the simple joys of country living.

B.J. shared many beautiful moments with his beloved late wife, Joann. Together, they traveled to far-off places, creating memories enriched by their adventures. B.J. found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including rides through the country, which reinforced his connection to the natural beauty of Louisiana. Weekends were often spent cheering for his favorite teams, the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.

B.J.’s legacy stretches far beyond the yield of his crops. It is woven through the countless lives he touched, and his determination, love, and spirited enjoyment of life. He will be deeply missed.
