Betty Curry Champagne, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 84 years old.
Born on January 30, 1941, in St. Martinville and raised in the close-knit community of Catahoula, Louisiana, Betty lived a life rooted in love, compassion, and devotion to her family and those around her. She was married to the late Harold Champagne, and together they built a home full of warmth, laughter, and unshakable family bonds.
She is survived by her loving children: Charlotte (Wayne) Oubre, Ricky (late Deyna and current companion Sheila Berard) Champagne, Susan Champagne, and Carolyn Broussard Boutte (Late Billy Broussard) (Ken); her devoted sisters, Della Curry Angelle (Late Antoine Angelle) and Delsie Savoy (Late John C. "So" Savoy); and her cherished grandchildren: Heather (Blake) Foreman, Blake Oubre, Jenna Oubre, Brody (Megan) Champagne, Austin Champagne, Brittany (Nick) Strentz, and Ryan (Mandy) Broussard. Betty was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought endless joy to her life: Brantley Champagne, Maddox Foreman, Beckham Foreman, Maverick Champagne, Chelsea Cheatham, Kinsley Champagne, Kane Broussard, Carter Broussard, and Greyson Broussard.
Betty dedicated many years of her life to caring for others while working with Dr. Fournet at the St. Martin Infirmary. Known lovingly as the "self-taught nurse" of the family, Betty always had a remedy, a warm towel, or a comforting word for anyone who needed it. She was a natural caregiver, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear.
She loved her flowers and wind chimes and spent many peaceful afternoons on her porch admiring the blooms she nurtured in her hanging baskets and flower beds. Her joy came from the simplest things: visits from her grandchildren, giggles from her great-grandchildren, helping with school uniforms, ironing clothes, or just being present when someone needed her.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband Harold Champagne; her parents Angelle Girouard Curry Knott and Arthur Curry; her stepfather Clayus Knott; and her sister Lovenia Curry Champagne
Though we are heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing that Betty has reunited with Harold and those she loved in Heaven. Together again, they are watching over their family with the same gentle spirit and warm smiles that blessed us all during their time here.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
-1 Corinthians 13:13
