Brandon James Sonnier

New Iberia – Funeral services will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home at 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2025, for Brandon James Sonnier, 51. Brandon passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Hospice of Acadiana’s Calcutta House after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Brandon James Sonnier was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on September 10, 1974, to Carl James Sonnier and the late Madga Geneva Roberts Sonnier, and was a 1992 graduate of NISH.

Brandon dedicated over 33 years to the oilfield. He excelled as a supervisor, well-site coordinator, and trainer in coil tubing. Brandon’s expertise was matched only by his passion for mentoring colleagues, always eager to share his knowledge and guide others in the field. He had an extraordinary work ethic that he passed down to his children.

Brandon was also dedicated to his personal pursuits. He was truly a man of diverse interests. An aficionado of cars and stereo systems, he had a unique collection of comics, Transformers, and swords.

Brandon was a pillar of strength in his commitment to personal fitness. Known for his significant weight loss journey, he was a beast in the gym and was an example and trainer to many clients, motivating them to find their own paths to health and wellness.

Yet it was his role as a father that defined Brandon’s legacy. He treasured every moment spent watching his daughter, Alexia, play softball, their shared love for horror movies creating a bond that flourished with laughter and late-night thrills. A steady presence in the lives of his family, he didn’t always express it overtly, but every action he took was fueled by the love he held for them. He made countless sacrifices, working tirelessly to provide for them while ensuring they felt supported and cherished. He will be deeply missed.

Brandon is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Joni Renee Wilson Sonnier; children, Chandler Wilson (Ryleigh Walker), Alexia Sonnier, Hunter Sonnier, and Raiden Sonnier; father, Carl Sonnier; siblings, Lynell LaSalle (Paul), Leami Mouton (Troy), Bart Sonnier (Elizabeth Dufour), and Lavell Sonnier; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Madga Sonnier; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Ora Lee Roberts; and paternal grandparents, Walston and Ami Sonnier.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brandon’s oncology team, led by Dr. Sweekriti Adhikari; and to the staff of Calcutta House for extraordinary care and compassion.

Brandon’s memory will live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
