Cecile Hebert Lassalle (Cele) was born at her paternal grandparent’s home in Jeanerette on January 13, 1933, to Leonard B. Hebert, Sr. and Kathryn Rader Hebert. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 72 years, Sidney P. Lassalle, Jr. (Buddy); and two brothers, Leonard Hebert, Jr. and Norris Hebert.
Cele graduated from Jeanerette Senior High School and enjoyed being a cheerleader there. She loved to dance at the KC (Knights of Columbus) Hall and later at the Chateaux in Jeanerette. She graduated from Spencer Business College and used those skills in her jobs for the Clerk of Court’s office, the Registrar of Voters Office as well as her work for Greg Dekeyser.
Cele and Buddy both loved dancing when they were dating and continued to enjoy themselves on the dance floor after they married. She married Sidney, the love of her life, on June 21st, 1952 while he was serving in the Navy in Patuxent River, Maryland, during the Korean War. During their time in Maryland, they had a daughter.
After service in the Navy, they moved back to New Iberia and bought a house they lived in for the rest of their lives. They had three more children.
Cele was a generous, kind, feisty person with a good sense of humor. She could float sheetrock and fix the motor of the family’s blue Jeep with a bobby pin if she needed to. She mastered many homemaking skills and became a good cook and an expert seamstress. She had many creative hobbies including making jewelry and rosaries, painting, and crocheting, sharing her talents and things she created with her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Mrs. Lassalle is survived by four children, Cindy Lassalle, Jane Dugas (Randy), Mae Dooley (Danny), and Mike Lassalle (Stephanie); grandchildren: Aaron David (Alisha), Luke David, Christine Bayard (Brandon), Jason Dugas (Ashley), Jeremy Bourque (McKenzie), Aubrey Bourque (Jeramy Bergeaux), Lacy Dooley, Lauren Dooley (Matt Nguyen), and Gabrielle Lassalle; and great-grandchildren, Isaac David, Daniel David, Sophia David, Adam Bayard, Liam Bayard, Gwen Dugas, Greg Dugas, Maddox Collette, and Skyla Bergeaux.
The family would like to thank the staff of Vital Caring Hospice (formerly Traditions Hospice) for the excellent care Cele and her late husband received; and special thanks and gratitude to Angel Harris, Gigi Green, Jennifer Lockett, and Louwanda Brown who were extraordinarily kind, gentle, and patient with the day-to-day care of Cele and Buddy.
