New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Chester Joseph Babineaux, 91, who died Monday, December 23, 2013, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 7:00 AM until 9:30 AM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM Tuesday.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Babineaux was born on July 1, 1922, and was the son of Simon and Alice Lopez Babineaux. He was a plumber in New Iberia, where he and his late wife Rena, established and was co-owner of Chester Babineaux Plumbing and Acadiana Mobile Home Park.
He loved going fishing with his wife on their own personal pond at their camp on Spanish Lake, where many family gatherings were held. They also enjoyed many trips with friends, along with his late loving sister, Elsie Gonsoulin and her husband Ulysse.
Survivors include his children, Terry Babineaux and wife Barbara of New Iberia, Debra Abraham and husband Kenneth of Lafayette, Rodney Babineaux and wife Terry of New Iberia; eight grandchildren, Marcus Babineaux, Angel Lopez, Kennon Abraham, Misti Thorne, Laurie LaBauve, Alice Abraham, Seth Babineaux, Abby Babineaux; 14 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lena Delcambre of New Iberia, and Isabelle Romero of New Iberia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Rena Dugas Babineaux; son, Kim Babineaux; brothers, Harry Babineaux, Willie Babineaux, George Babineaux, Freddie Babineaux, John D. Babineaux; and a sister, Elsie Gonsoulin.
Pallbearers include Rodney Babineaux, Terry Babineaux, Seth Babineaux, Tommy LaBauve, Ryan Thorne, Marcus Babineaux, and Darryon Babineaux.
The family wishes to give special thanks Fr. Mark Derise for his spiritual support and to Heart of Hospice for making our fathers last days comforting. Also special thanks to the special caregivers, Brenda Comeaux, Kayla Prados, Heather LeJeune, Nikki Pepper, and Nancy Bourque, for the extraordinary care of given to our father.
