Claude Joseph Maturin

New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Claude Joseph Maturin, 76, who died Saturday, October 5, 2013, in New Iberia. Interment will follow in the St. Marcellus Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, until 9:30 AM Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Tuesday. Born on May 29, 1937, Mr. Maturin was a lifelong resident of New Iberia, and had worked in the salt mines for over 36 years. An avid coin collector, his hobbies included raising chickens, hogs, cows, woodworking, and watching western movies. He is survived by his wife, Sybil Darby Maturin of New Iberia; children, Gloria Romero and husband Wayne of Rayne, Bobby Maturin and wife Elizabeth Milliman of Loreauville, Nancy Maturin and husband Kenny Boudreaux of New Iberia, Cindy Maturin of New Iberia, Joseph Maturin of New Iberia; 13 grandchildren, Kristy Ponvelle and husband Resley, Jeremy Romero, Shantelle Milliman, Sintelia Milliman, Ryan Maturin and wife Faith, Jenny Romero, A.J. Romero, Shane Maturin, Scotty Maturin, Tonya Langla, Brad Langla, Hannah Maturin, Ethan Maturin; 5 great grandchildren, Jordyn Ponvelle, Jaydn Ponvelle, Cayton Maturin, Tallon Maturin, Amya Domingues; sisters, Emiline Maturin of Coteau, and Ada Maturin of Oakdale. Additional survivors include his step children, Paul J. Darby, III, Charles Darby, Maria LeJeune, Catherine Alexawdroan, Charlotte Darby, Elaine Cerna, Rachael Gunnels, Madeline Darby; and several step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sevilier Viller Maturin and Sintelia Gary Maturin; brothers and sisters, Alidier Maturin, Lydia Maturin, Villa Maturin, Willis Maturin, Wilfred Maturin, Ellis Maturin, Sr.; and his first wife, Jeannese Gary Maturin. Pallbearers will be Bobby Maturin, Joseph Maturin, Ryan Maturin, Jeremy Romero, Allen Badeaux, Kenny Boudreaux, Wayne Romero, and Resley Ponvelle.
