Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, April 18, 2011, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Cleonelle Frances Castille Bernard, 83, who passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Father Louis Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St. Theresa/St. Benedict Catholic Church in Duson, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The scriptures will be read by Hannah Bernard and Amy Mouton. Gifts will be presented to the Altar by Annaclaire Zerangue, Jacob Bernard, and Elliott Bernard. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Mrs. Bernard was a retired educator in St. Martin Parish, having received her Masters Degree of Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette.
A devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Cleo was very active in her church parish, where she was a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society, since its inception; Third Sunday Coffee, providing her delicious 'Pink Cookies'; the Rosary Group; and her most beloved St. Bernard Adult Choir - sharing her beautiful voice with the church parish since the mid-1970's, and she was also instrumental in assembling and editing the recipes for the choir's cookbook, 'Cooking in Harmony.'
She was an avid gardener who loved working in her yard tending to her flowers and vegetable garden.
Cleo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted friend to many, as well as an inspiration to the many students she taught. Her warm and gentle smile and kindhearted spirit will forever be remembered by the lives she's touched.
Survivors include her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, James Donald Bernard of Breaux Bridge; three sons, Steve Bernard and his wife, Jeanise, of Breaux Bridge; Jeff Bernard and his wife, Diane of Shreveport, and Peter Bernard and his wife, Michelle, of Mountain Home, TX; two daughters, Connie Comeaux and her husband, Eugene, of New Iberia, and Sandra Dugas and her husband, Greg, of Lafayette; two brothers, Frank Castille of St. Martinville, and Leonard Castille of Breaux Bridge; six sisters, Jean Angelle of Lafayette, Greta Green of New Iberia, Ginny LeBlanc of Breaux Bridge, Cheryl Turner of Baton Rouge, Deborah Shelton of Breaux Bridge, and Deidre Reichel of Texas City, TX; six grandchildren, Phillip, Hannah, Elliott and Jacob Bernard, Amy Mouton, and Beau Comeaux; and one great grandchild, Annaclaire Zerangue.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Royal Pierre Castille and Lyda Jane Barrick Castille; and two brothers, Gordon Castille and R.P. Castille.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday and continue on Monday at 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
A rosary will be recited by Wildie Roberts at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bernard, Jeff Bernard, Peter Bernard, Eugene Comeaux, Greg Dugas, and Beau Comeaux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip, Elliott, and Jacob Bernard.
