Born December 20, 1950, in Lafayette, Cynthia came to Breaux Bridge in 1960 after spending several years "on the road" as part of her Navy family. Enrolled at St. Bernard Catholic School, Cindy made friends easily and was chosen as the 1961 Junior Miss St. Martin of 1961. She made quite an impression on the Teche News reporter who noted that she was the "10-year-old brunette with the dancing eyes." Cindy retained her dancing eyes as she was selected to the inaugural group of "Ecrevettes," a group of young ladies who served as ambassadors for the 1966 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. She was a 1968 graduate of Breaux Bridge High School and attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Cynthia was active in the Breaux Bridge Jaynes of the 1970-80s. A bit of a rebel in the 1960s, she discovered, promoted and loved the power of the Beatles, Woodstock and the musical Hair much to her mother's chagrin. Later, she was a big fan and friend of Zachary Richard. She enjoyed floral arranging and had a talent for interior decoration
Cynthia was a familiar friendly face at her family's business of Amy's Grocery in Henderson where she served as produce manager for more than 20 years. She was also a distinguished plate lunch chef and prepared many outstanding "rice and gravy" meals for hungry crawfish peelers in the Bayou Amy town.
After the traumatic event of closing Amy's Grocery in 2008 (an 80-year-old family business), she devoted herself to the care of her father who suffered from the debilitating effects of several strokes. After Bob (as everyone called him) passed away in 2012, she provided care and support to mother Grace, another towering figure that went by one name. Her siblings are eternally grateful for her devotion to our parents.
Flowers are nice but donations to the St. Bernard-St. Francis Food Pantry in Cindy's honor are encouraged. Visit https://www.sbsffoodpantry.org/
