David Wormser

New Iberia – Eulogies will be delivered by family and friends at Pellerin Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 24, 2026, for David M. Wormser, 77, who passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Interment will follow in the Gates of Prayer Cemetery in New Iberia.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

David Wormser lived life with enthusiasm, humor, and an enormous love for his family and friends. He was the oldest of three children and proudly embraced that role. He often led the way—sometimes as the protective older brother, sometimes as the family troublemaker—but always with a larger-than-life personality that people were naturally drawn to.

Growing up in New Iberia, David became part of a family whose name has long been woven into the history of the community. While he was proud of his family’s legacy, he created one of his own through the friendships he built, the stories he told, and the way he made people feel.

David never met a stranger. He loved being around people and believed some of life’s best moments happened when family and friends gathered together. Happy hour at his home or at a friend’s house wasn’t just about sharing a drink—it was about laughter, storytelling, catching up, and making memories. He had an incredible gift for telling stories. Whether they were about childhood adventures, LSU, Mardi Gras, skiing, or everyday life, he could captivate a room, and even if you’d heard the story before, you wanted to hear it again.

He was a lifelong LSU Tigers fan and bled purple and gold. One of his favorite memories was feeding Mike the Tiger at LSU, a story he loved sharing with pride.

David loved South Louisiana and all of its traditions. Mardi Gras held a special place in his heart. He loved the parades, the floats, the music, and the excitement that brought the community together every year. Being named King of the Andalusia Ball was one of the many highlights of his life and reflected the respect and affection people had for him in New Iberia.

He was also a proud member of the Downtown Merchants Association and the Downtown Business Association, where he helped establish the New Iberia Christmas Parade and the Andalusia Mardi Gras Parade. He loved bringing people together and took great pride in helping create traditions that continue to bring joy to the community today.

He believed in giving back to his community and was an active member of Kiwanis. David enjoyed being involved and helping make New Iberia an even better place.

David also had a lifelong love of fishing. Some of his happiest days were spent on the water aboard his beloved boat, The Ragtime. Whether he was casting a line with family and friends or simply enjoying the peace and beauty of the water, those moments were among his favorites.

He loved to dance. If music was playing, there was a good chance David would find his way to the dance floor. He embraced celebrations and enjoyed bringing joy to the people around him.

David also loved to cook. Preparing meals for family and friends was another way he showed his love. He understood that some of the best conversations happened around a table, and he enjoyed creating those moments.

Photography was one of his lifelong passions. He appreciated beauty, loved documenting life’s special moments, and preserved countless memories through his camera.

He also loved skiing and treasured every opportunity to visit Colorado. The mountains, fresh air, and adventure brought him happiness, and Colorado always held a special place in his heart.

Anyone who knew David knew he could be incredibly stubborn. Once he believed in something, he wasn’t easily persuaded otherwise. But that same determination was matched by fierce loyalty. He stood by the people he loved and remained devoted to them throughout his life.

Above all else, David’s greatest love was his family.

He was incredibly proud of his son, Jacob, and welcomed Jacob’s wife, Victoria, into the family with open arms. His grandchildren, Rhett and Vayleigh, brought him immeasurable joy and pride.

David also shared a lifelong bond with his younger brother, Johnny, and his younger sister, Sally. Together they shared a lifetime of memories, celebrations, and family traditions. Their love for one another remained strong throughout their lives.

He also deeply loved Cathy and her family, who were an important part of his extended family and brought him much happiness over the years.

David’s greatest gift was making people feel welcome. Friends became family in his home. He loved conversation, laughter, celebrations, and creating memories that would be retold for years to come.

His life was filled with LSU football, fishing aboard The Ragtime, Mardi Gras parades, Andalusia celebrations, service through Kiwanis, the Downtown Merchants Association and Downtown Business Association, dancing, cooking, photography, skiing in Colorado, evenings with friends, and countless stories that became part of family history.

More than anything, David will be remembered for the love he gave so freely. He loved deeply, laughed often, lived fully, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Mr. Wormser is survived by son, Jacob Wormser (Victoria); grandchildren, Rhett Wormser, Vayleigh Wormser and Rio Dugas; sister, Sally Bassler (Joe Scharnberg); sister-in-law, Adele Wormser; nieces and nephews, Loran Milliman, Ben Wormser, Michael Wormser (Stacy), Harold J. Wormser, II, and Kathryn “Katie” Adele Wormser; great-nieces and great- nephews, Sophie Wormser, Sadie Wormser, and Bradley Wormser; his longtime significant other, Cathy Perdue and her children, Kelly Desormeaux (Thad) and Carrie Jolet (Steven).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Justin Wormser and Josephine Frosh Wormser; brother, John H. Wormser; brother-in-law, Charley Bassler; step-son, Dustin Dugas.

His legacy lives on in Jacob, Victoria, Rhett, and Vayleigh; in his brother Johnny and his sister Sally; in Cathy and her family; in his many lifelong friends; and in every person who smiles when they begin a sentence with, “Let me tell you a story about David.”

That is the measure of a life well lived—not simply the years we are given, but the memories we leave behind. David’s stories, his laughter, his generosity, and his love will continue to live on through the people who knew him best.
