Deborah J. Steele

New Iberia – Deborah J. Steele, a beloved soul whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the age of 74.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm. 

A rosary, led by Deacon Durk Viator, will be prayed at 2:30 pm on Tuesday. 

Deborah Ann Joubert Steele was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana on June 14, 1951, and was a 1969 graduate of Jeanerette Senior High School. She then pursued her passion for beauty by attending beauty school. For a few years, she worked as a beautician, using her skills to bring out the beauty in others while creating lasting relationships with her clients.

Deborah's passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her greatest blessings. She cherished every moment spent making memories that will forever be held dear.

Deborah was affectionately known as the “Queen of Duct Tape,” as it was her fix-all remedy for just about anything and everything! She also had an artistic flair, and enjoyed painting, gardening, and woodworking. Whether tending to her garden or crafting unique wooden pieces, Deborah approached every endeavor with enthusiasm, and her creations will be treasured for years to come.

Deborah was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Steele is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Charles Steele; daughters, Toshia Steele (Nancy), and Jodie Steele; grandchildren, Rosanna Steele, Gracie Steele, Christopher Dunez, Grace Sahlin, and Isabelle Sahlin; great-grandchildren, Reece, Remi, and Reign; mother, Laura Joubert; and brothers, Roger Joubert and Carl Joubert (Patti).

She was preceded in death by her father, Elvin Joubert; infant sister, Lucy Joubert; sister, Glenda Stansbury (Johnny); and sister-in-law, Jeanne Joubert.

Deborah leaves behind a world more colorful than she found it. She will remain in our hearts forever. May she rest in peace.
