Lafayette- Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, April 18, 2011, at True Vine Ministries Church in Lafayette, for Della Babineaux Jean-Batiste, 74, who passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Bishop Jarvis Harmon will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Cecilia.
Della had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing Bingo, and going on trail rides. She loved listening and dancing to Zydeco music - which would always bring a smile to her face.
Della was known to be a wonderful cook and baker who loved to entertain her family and friends with a feast of good food, especially Barbecue, for them enjoy. It was at those family gatherings that she enjoyed a challenging game of cards. She will be sorrowfully missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Russell Lee Jean-Batiste, Jr. and his wife, Dianne, of Tacoma, WA, Donald Lee Jean-Batiste of Breaux Bridge, Joseph Craig Jean-Batiste of Lafayette; three daughters, Shelia Ann Jean-Batiste of Lafayette, Sharon Ann Jean-Batiste of Cecilia, and Melinda Marie Guidry of Lafayette; four brothers, Donald Babineaux of Arnaudville, Rogers Babineaux of St. Martinville, Harold Babineaux of Lafayette, and Herman Babineaux of Arnaudville; two sisters, Genevieve Calais of Breaux Bridge, and Ethel Boxie of Arnaudville; 39 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her children, Dianna Harris and MacArther Lee Jean-Batiste; her parents, Alton Babineaux and Wilda Dartez; three sisters, Anna Laura Williams, Mary Jane Calais, and Earline Davis; and three brothers, Clinton, Nelton, and Steven Babineaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at True Vine Ministries Church on Monday beginning at 8 a.m. and continue until time of service.
Pallbearers will be McArthur Derousselle, Trevalis Jean-Batiste, Stan Lee Harris, Terrell Jean-Batiste, Bryant Batiste, and Kwamayne Riggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be P.J. Jean-Batiste, Bryan Derousselle, and Akeem Batiste.
