Breaux Bridge - A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Dennis N. "Caveman" Thompson, 66, who passed away on June 11, 2026.
Dennis, a devoted husband, talented mechanic, and proud veteran of the United States Navy was born on February 25, 1960, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Dennis spent the majority of his life in Breaux Bridge, where he became known for his kind heart, mechanical aptitude, and love for the great outdoors. He also had a love for his Harley Davidson motorcycle and racing his Kawasaki 500 dirt bike in the woods.
Dennis served his country honorably for ten years in the Navy, working on submarines. His time in service shaped much of his character and provided him with a strong sense of duty and camaraderie. After his military service, he dedicated his skills to the oil field industry, where he thrived as a mechanic and welder. There was hardly anything that Dennis couldn't fix, and he took great pride in his ability to tackle challenges head-on.
Beyond his technical skills, Dennis had a deep love for nature. He often spent his weekends fishing and enjoying the quiet beauty of the outdoors. He was known for his engaging storytelling, bringing laughter and warmth to any gathering.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara S. Thompson; sister, Vicky Jordan (Kerry); and his step-sisters, Karla Mullins, Debra Moore and Stephanie Rodarte.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carrol Ann Thompson; father, Thomas Thompson; and his mother, Judith Bartling.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
