Dewey "DJ" Calais, Jr.

Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 27, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Dewey "DJ" Calais, Jr., 80, who passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Monday from 7:00 am until 10:30 am. 

A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Sunday evening by Deacon Ken Soignier. 

Rev. Msgr. Keith DeRouen will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Concelebrant will be Fr. Gregory Cormier. Readers will be Toni Duiett and Tommy Calais. Gift Bearers will be Brinlea Calais, Keatyn Calais and Penny Calais.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. 

D.J. was an avid sports fan.  He loved the New York Yankees and the LSU Tigers.  He also kept close tabs on all Cecilia Bulldogs sports.  He enjoyed cooking and was quite exceptional at it.  He loved spending time with family and friends.  Everyone knew when D.J. was around due to his distinctive voice, laugh, and sarcastically witty one-liners.  He adored his grandchildren, often telling stories of their achievements.  Lastly, D.J. was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeannette Allemond Calais; daughter, Tracey Berard; sons, Mickey Calais (Teresa) and Miles Calais; brother, Bobby Calais; grandchildren, Kutter Berard (Raleigh), Brigham Calais, Brinlea Calais and Keatyn Calais; and his godfather, Father Floyd "Flo" Calais. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Calais, Sr. and Lorine Angelle Calais; sisters, Hallie Tauzin and Glo Calais; son-in-law, Kenneth "Pete" Berard; parents-in-law, Percy and Adelaide Allemond; and his sister-in-law, Loretta Calais. 

Pallbearers will be Mickey Calais, Miles Calais, Kutter Berard, Brigham Calais, Ronnie Calais, and Chad Calais. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Calais, Burt Guidry, Carroll Huval, Robert "T-Boy" Calais, James Allemond, Sr., Lowell "PeeWee" Guidry, and Jamie Calais.
