Breaux Bridge- A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Donella Lea Collet Duncan, 78, who passed away on July 1, 2025 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital.
Donella was born on September 21, 1946 in Cadillac, MI. For over thirty years, Donella devoted herself to education, grooming future teachers and inspiring countless students. Her passion for teaching went beyond the classroom; she had an innate ability to spark curiosity in young minds, nurturing a love for learning that would last a lifetime. Many of her former students fondly remember her fiery spirit, her deep commitment to their growth, and her encouraging words that often ignited their own dreams.
Outside of her teaching career, Donella found joy in a myriad of hobbies. She was often found working in her cherished yard, turning it into a beautiful sanctuary filled with vibrant flowers and lush greenery that reflected her artistic soul. Her talents extended to crochet and baking, where she lovingly crafted handmade gifts for friends and family, and baked delightful treats that became a staple at gatherings. A woman of refined taste, she approached every new endeavor with a thirst for knowledge, always ready to learn something new.
Yet, her greatest love and pride were her son and granddaughters. The warmth and affection she showered upon them were immeasurable. They were the light of her life, the source of her joy, and the ones she cherished above all else. As a mother and grandmother, she exhibited an extraordinary strength and unwavering support, creating a legacy of love that will endure through generations.
Donella was not just a teacher; she was an inspiration, a nurturer, and a friend. Her fiery spirit and passion for life touched everyone who knew her. Her independent nature and refined character left a profound impact on her community, and her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Donella's laughter and love will be dearly missed, but her legacy will continue to flourish in the lives of those she so beautifully influenced.
She is survived by her son, Byron Duncan (Lisa); grandchildren, Abbie Duncan Talley (Jon), Jessica Duncan, Grace Baum, Rachel Baum Chester (Aurelien) and Nari Baum; brother, Tony Collet (Eliud Balderas); sisters, Billie Elmer (Victor), Ruby Guidry (Ronnie), Darlene Broussard, Mary Guidry (Brian), Jan Webre, Jill Zimmerman (Guy) and Candy Hamilton (Ronnie); sister in law, Nellie Collet.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Billy Duncan; parents, Louis and Vivian Collet; brother, Louis Ric Collet.
