St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 11, 2026 at St. Martin De Tours Catholic Church honoring the life of Doris "Dottie" Batiste Broussard, 91, who passed away on March 25, 2026 at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. 

A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 10:45 AM. 

A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM on Saturday. 

Rev. Jason Vidrine will officiate at the funeral mass. Readers will be Charmaine St. Julien, Chad Broussard and Bethany Broussard. 

Burial will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum. 

Doris Batiste Broussard was born to the union of late Philomen Cole Batiste and Paul Batiste, Sr. on October 9, 1934. She was a sister of nine children. She was a lifelong resident of St. Martinville, LA. She was affectionately known as "Me-me", "Dottie", "Momma", and "Metro".

She was a woman full of love, kindness, and compassion. Preparing to depart her earthly journey and enter the pearly gates of heaven she had one more wish to fulfill. At 91 years of age, she had a remarkable liver. She was an organ donor. Her liver was removed and transferred to a patient in the state of Florida. The transplant was successful. The beauty of her bequest lives on in another human-being.

She was a graduate of Carver High in Breaux Bridge, LA. She played basketball for Carver High. Active within her community, she was a Vice-President of Parent Teacher Association at St. Martinville Primary. She was a member of numerous organizations her favorite being Breast Cancer Society, as she overcame Breast Cancer becoming an advocate for others.

She loved hosting events while cooking gourmet meals which she never shared her recipes.

Her greatest joy was having loved ones, friends and family over. Holidays were the highlight of her year because she loved to cook. A dedicated employee, she spent 40 years working at LeVert St. John and Martin Mills Fruit of the Loom. She became creative with her cooking skills becoming tired of the traditional meals. She turned to sumptuous Creole dishes which she became an expert at and was recognized in the book "Black Sugar, published 2003 by Ira Brown Harkley. She retired 2008. On October 9, 2024, she was honored and celebrated with Proclamation Day honoring her accomplishments by St. Martinville Mayor.

Doris "Dottie" Batiste Broussard was the matriarch of her family. She was the glue for all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was married to Olies Broussard Sr. for 50 years until his death on September 29, 2009. They were blessed with beautiful children, Harvey Batiste of Los Angeles, CA, Olies "Pop" (Madonna) Broussard, Jr. of Parks, Sandra "Sue Mel" Batiste of St. Martinville, Zelma Broussard of Lafayette, Iris "Tater" Broussard of Lawndale, CA, Zeraline "Kinney" (Bobby) Joseph of Gardenia, CA, Nolan (Mary Lynn) Broussard of Cade, Alton Broussard of Lafayette, Diana "Connie" (Joseph) St. Julien of Houston, TX and Verdell Parker of Houston, TX; 17 grandchildren; and 49 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Philomen Cole Batiste and Paul Batiste Sr.; her husband, Olies Broussard Sr.; her daughter, Rosalind "Roxie" Broussard; her sons, Allen Broussard and Lionel Broussard; and all 8 of her siblings, Delcombre Batiste Sr., Paul Batiste Jr., Rufus Batiste Sr., Nolan Batiste, Sr., Geneva B. Mitchell, Mary B. Jacquet, Mildred Batiste and Edith B. François;

Pallbearers will be Lance Charles, Donte' Batiste, Olies Broussard, Jr., Jarrell Joseph, Jermaine St. Julien and Ransome Broussard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Vasin, Walkcane Batiste, Stilman Joseph, Brently P. Broussard, Riley K. Broussard, Olies Broussard, Jr., Harvey Batiste, Nolan Broussard, Bobby Joseph, Alton Broussard and Anthony S. Batiste.
