Dorothy Lavergne Tarver Broussard was born in Olla, Louisiana on May 16, 1933, to the late Lonnie and Gertrude Eubanks Tarver. She worked as an educator for the Iberia Parish School System for 30 years, having taught at Weeks Junior High, Grand Marais Elementary, and finally retiring from Peebles Elementary.
Ms. Dot had a love for adventure and togetherness. Her spirit truly soared when she was traveling or camping, especially with family and close friends. The shimmering beauty of the Rocky Mountains always called to her heart; she once embarked on a remarkable 28-day journey through their breathtaking landscapes.
Ms. Dot enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, such as going to the zoo, eating out, playing Pokeno, and reading romance novels. Her leadership qualities and love of the outdoors led to her be a Girl Scout troop leader, and she was also involved with the Disabled Veterans of America. She will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Broussard is survived by daughter, Bonnie Rabeaux (Paul); son-in-law, Arthur “Art” Vancil; granddaughters, Ashley Brewer (Trevor) and Allison Matkin (William “Ezra”); great-grandchildren, William “Eli” Matkin, Margaret “Maggie” Smith (Cooper), Matthew Matkin, Charles “Charlie” Matkin, Jaye Brewer, Quinn Brewer, and Cooper Matkin; brother, Clifton Tarver; stepbrother, Stanley Clark, Sr. (Kathleen); and godchild, Jaylin LeJeune, who was like a granddaughter to Dot.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jules Broussard; daughter, Connie Vancil; infant son, L.C. Broussard; and sister, Helen Cooper.
Pallbearers are Brett Van Campen, Tom Norris, Ezra Matkin, Trevor Brewer, Ted Hotard, and Kevin Hotard.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dorothy’s great-nephew, Brett Van Campen for all of his help with her care; and to A & L Adult Daycare, Leading Home, and East Ridge Nursing and Rehab for extraordinary care.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Lydia Cancer Association.
Ms. Dot will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. May she rest in peace.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Psalm 23
