Earl "Prof" Guidry

Catahoula - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2023 at St. Rita Catholic Church for Earl "Prof" Guidry, 90, who passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette. 

A visitation will take place at Dion Hall in Catahoula on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening by Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert.

Father Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. 

"Prof" or "Professor", as he was affectionately known since childhood, was a true gentleman and a really good person. He will be remembered as kind, generous, friendly and he had the highest degree of integrity. 

Earl enjoyed golf, dancing, traveling, LSU baseball, eating out, and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed working for Matt Durand Construction.

The family would like to express a special thanks to his loving companion, Lucy Bernard. For the last 12 years, she brought him much happiness and cared for him when he became ill the last couple of years. Also, to the Bernard family, for accepting Earl into their family. 

He is survived by his sons, Glenn Guidry (Cindy) and Ricky Guidry (Debbie); grandchildren, Benjamin Guidry (Bridget), Natalie Armentor (Beau) and Samuel Guidry (Ryan); five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Kirby Guidry (Faye). 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jeanette Broussard Guidry; parents, Whitney and Lillian Latiolais Guidry; and his brothers, Dalfred Guidry, Carroll Guidry and Curtis Guidry. 

Pallbearers will be Glenn Guidry, Ricky Guidry, Ben Guidry, Sam Guidry, Beau Armentor, and Kirby Guidry. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Courville, Maxie Mathews, Jay Bernard, and Larry Louviere.
