Virginia Eaton Chauvin Brown, known affectionately to family and friends as Eaton, was born in Abbeville, Louisiana, on July 16, 1940. She was the cherished daughter of Dr. Louis Eaton Chauvin and Virginia Guidry of Erath and beloved wife of J.S. “Si” Brown III.

Eaton spent her childhood in Abbeville, establishing a lifelong love for horses and animals. She attended Abbeville High School, where her dedication to her studies culminated in her graduating as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1958. Following high school, she enrolled at Newcomb-Tulane University, where she met Si.

Beyond her academic achievements, Eaton was a woman of remarkable vitality and competitive spirit. Eaton had a lifelong love and appreciation of sports and the outdoors. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed hunting, fishing, birdwatching, gardening, and caring for numerous pets over the years. She also loved history, books, movies, and music and never tired of learning and mastering something new.

In 1990, she took up competitive trap shooting, traveling across the U.S., forging countless friendships, and taking home numerous trophies and accolades. Over the years, she won more than 70 championships in Louisiana and nationwide. She served as the director of the Louisiana Trap Association from 1995 to 2000, and she helped to plan and build a new trap field at the Hub City Rifle & Pistol Club. In 2010, she was inducted into the Louisiana Trapshooting Association Hall of Fame.

Her memory and spirit will be carried forward by her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Si Brown; and her five loving children, Leslie Singer, and her husband Robert Lebeau of Paradise Valley, Az., Virginia Forrestier and her husband Kent of Lafayette, La., Alison Pace of Marietta, Ga., Patrick Brown and his wife Monica of Lafayette, La., and Robin Young and her husband David of Lafayette, La. She is also survived by granddaughter, Elise Durant and her husband JP of Nashville, Tn. She will be missed by all, as well as by her extended family, neighbors, and friends.
