Dr. Eddie, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Born in New Iberia, Louisiana, on December 14, 1932, to the late Allen Joseph and Alva Landry Lamperez, Edmond Allen Lamperez graduated from St. Peter’s College (now Catholic High School) in 1951. He completed his pre-medical studies at Tulane University then earned his medical degree from Tulane Medical 1958. He then completed his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and undertook a year of surgical residency before entering the United States Air Force. During his service to his country, Dr. Lamperez was stationed for three years in Bermuda as a Flight Surgeon for a Strategic Air Command unit in the years between the wars in Korea and Viet Nam.
Upon completion of his military service, Eddie began a four-year residency in Urology at Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco. It was there that he met his wife, Judy Weeks and was smitten. They married in 1965, sharing a love of adventure, family, and lifelong learning. After residency, Eddie and Judy moved to his hometown where he established his medical practice, serving as the town’s sole urologist for ten years and raising four bright children. His practice spanned more than 40 years.
Dr. Lamperez’s contributions significantly impacted healthcare in the community, providing essential urological care to countless patients over the years. His devotion to medicine was profound, and he was known for his deep love of the profession. Education was the cornerstone of Eddie’s values, and he ensured that his children and grandchildren pursued their studies with diligence. A lifelong learner himself, Eddie was an avid reader with a particular passion for history and politics. Even after retirement, he continued to expand his knowledge and was always well-versed and ready to debate current affairs.
Outside of his medical career, Dr. Lamperez was a passionate golfer. For more than 40 years, he enjoyed the links every Wednesday with a close-knit group of friends: Dr. Jay Halphen, Dr. Oscar Alvarez, Charlie Lemaire, and Herb “Nookie” Breaux. Eddie treasured these friendships and so many more throughout his life in New Iberia.
Dr. and Mrs. Lamperez shared a rich life of travel. They cherished their annual beach trips with their kids to Destin, Florida, for over four decades. A proud descendant of New Iberia’s Spanish forebears, Eddie enjoyed exploring Europe and other continents, often on cruises. Some of their happiest memories were built in Angel Fire, New Mexico, where they skied in winter and enjoyed golden summers golfing and soaking in the wildlife and unspoiled scenery.
Above all else, Dr. Lamperez’s family was his greatest priority. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, always engaged in his family’s interests and concerns, and giving encouragement when he could. Eddie’s integrity, kindness, and dedication to others has been a blessing to so many. He will be missed by the community he loved and served with passion, and the family who depended on his strength and advice.
Dr. Lamperez is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judy Weeks Lamperez and their four children, Anne Marie Lamperez of McLean, VA; John Weeks Lamperez of Plano, TX; Edmond Allen Lamperez, Jr., (Wendy Hardy Lamperez) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Michael Lamperez of New Iberia; and two beloved grandchildren, Gabriel Lamperez and Isabella Lamperez.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alva Lamperez Spears.
The professional community and all who had the privilege of knowing Dr. Lamperez mourn his passing and honor his lifelong dedication to healing, learning, and fellowship. May he rest in peace and his memory always be a blessing.
