Elaine Babineaux Sonnier

New Iberia – A memorial service will be held at Pellerin Funeral at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, for Elaine Babineaux Sonnier, 84, who passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Deacon Durk Viator will officiate.

Entombment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

A rosary led by the Men’s Rosary Group will be prayed at 1:00 pm on Tuesday.

A resident of St. Martinville, Elaine Babineaux Sonnier was born in New Iberia on October 13, 1940, to the late Harry Joseph Babineaux and Rita Trahan Babineaux. Before marriage, she and her sisters all got jobs at Lowe’s Five and Dime, where they made cherished memories. Elaine was formerly a childcare provider, having worked for many years at Anna’s Daycare and Cathy’s Daycare. Elaine loved horses, and in her younger years, belonged to a riding club called “The Apaches,” where the members rode in parades adorned in Indian costumes.

Mrs. Sonnier is survived by sons, Troy Sonnier, Todd Sonnier (Donna), and Teddy Sonnier (Ngan); siblings, Earline Migues, Elverse Babineaux (Patsy), Margaret Gonsoulin, and Gayle Prados (Allen); grandchildren, Dustin Sonnier, Blake Sonnier (Jesika), Brance Sonnier (Shawna), Meagan Montet (Marcus), and Kim Sonnier; great-grandchildren, Izzy, Tucker, Noah, Ireland, Cullen, Ali, Skylyn, and Kai; step-great-grandchildren, Karsyn, Embri, and Drake; and former daughter-in-law, Dina Champagne Sonnier.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Jeffery Sonnier; infant daughter, Angel Sonnier; infant sister, Wendy Babineaux; daughter-in-law, Becky Sonnier; grandchildren, Skye Sonnier and Chase Sonnier; and brothers-in-law, Isaac Migues and Claude Gonsoulin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to offset expenses.
