Eloise Kern was a native of Franklin and a resident of New Iberia. She was one of twelve children born to the union of the late Adrian and Bernadette Haydel Simoneaux.
She was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where all of her children received all of their sacraments and where she and Leonard were married. She was a faithful and devoted Catechism teacher for over 30 years there as well. She and Leonard also devoted several years purchasing and planting the roses and flowers to make the church grounds so beautiful.
Her passion for gardening and planting roses and flowers was her favorite pastime at home as well. They spent many long hours together planting and caring for over 150 rose bushes she had at one point, as well as planting vegetables every spring. She would share her bountiful harvest of her vegetables with family and friends. She also loved sharing her beautiful roses and flowers for church hall functions or just to put a smile on someone's face and brighten their day.
But her greatest achievement was being a mother. She was the matriarch of our family, the glue that held us all together. Her motto was, “Without faith and family you have nothing.” She was the most loving and caring mother who taught compassion and love and always led by example. She was happiest when her family would come over to her house for lunch on Sunday's after Mass. She always had an open door policy and everyone was always welcome. Her biggest concern was having enough food to feed everyone who attended, even though she always had plenty.
Our hearts are truly broken, but we will be forever grateful for the extra 17 months we were given to spend with her following her stroke in March 2025. We are comforted by the knowledge that she was welcomed into the gates of Heaven as a good and faithful servant. We also believe that her “Bun” (Leonard) and her son Michael were there to greet her.
Eloise is survived by her children Kirk Boudreaux (Belinda), Mark Boudreaux (Lana), Bert Boudreaux,Vanessa B Baker, Janine Boudreaux, and Lawrence “Diggy” Boudreaux Jr. (Penny); stepchildren Westley Kern (Elena) and Jeff Kern (Janet); her grandchildren Shawn Boudreaux, Beau Boudreaux, Melanie B. She is also survived by 20 great grandchildren and one great-great-granchild; her siblings Ann Ardeneaux, Kerney Simoneaux Sr. and Janice Adams; and her sister-in-law Claudia S. Boudreaux (Bobby).
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Leonard J. Kern; her son who was taken way too soon, Michael “Pico” Boudreaux; siblings Ulysses “Menew,” Rivers, Ordie, Ovide, Harold, Ray Simoneaux and Amy Broussard; and the father or her children Lawrence Boudreaux Sr.; her dearest friend Rosemary Brasseaux, Sister (AMY)and her sisters-in-law Mary “Sis” Boudreaux and Iris B.
