A native and resident of New Iberia, Eugene Joseph LaBiche, Sr. was born on September 4, 1937, to the late Dozelia and Gussie Comeaux LaBiche. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a distinguished member of the Navy swim team. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of pride and honor, qualities he carried throughout his life.

Eugene, also known as “LaB” by many, was a self-employed professional in the oilfield, dedicating his career to hard work and determination. He accomplished much throughout his life. He was an Eagle Scout, a testament to his leadership and resilience. In his youth, he pushed boundaries as a boxer. He also enjoyed playing pool, often turning an ordinary game into a lively gathering filled with laughter and camaraderie.

An avid outdoorsman, LaB took immense pleasure in hunting and fishing, and cultivating his vegetable garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

Eugene was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3425 and a faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. As a former member of the Model A Club, LaB loved connecting with others who shared his passion for classic cars, bringing together those who appreciated the craftsmanship and rich history of these remarkable vehicles. Most importantly, Eugene cherished spending quality time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Mr. LaBiche is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen Delahoussaye LaBiche; children, Lisa Dronet (Timothy), Todd LaBiche (Kerry), and Eugene “Geno” LaBiche, Jr. (Amy); siblings, Darryl LaBiche (Pam), Mandy Seneca (Cal), and Kevin LaBiche (Marian); sister-in-law, Eugenia LaBiche; grandchildren, Timothy “T.J.” Dronet, II (Heidi), Jeremy Dronet (Brittany), Bailey David (Aaron), Samantha Cosey (Blake), Natalie LaBiche Cormier, Wendy Gilfoil (Jamie), Jean-Paul Delahoussaye (Jennifer), Justin LaBiche (Kaci), Sarah Schunemeyer, Elizabeth Roberts (Bo), and Jenna Purdy; 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
