A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, March 10, 2014, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Mrs. Julius J. DeRouen, the former Florence Marie Waguespack. Mrs. DeRouen died at the age of 81 on March 7, 2014, in New Iberia at the home of her daughter surrounded by her children.
Interment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette.
Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
Mrs. DeRouen was born in Erath, Louisiana, on June 11, 1932. She was a long-time resident of both Avery Island and New Iberia. Florence and Julius were married on October 16, 1949, and were together until Julius died on May 6, 1995. Her many friends will remember her for her love of children and she provided loving childcare in her home for many years. She was the only licensed hairdresser on Avery Island and provided services to everyone on the island. She served as a den mother for her sons Cub Scouts troop, was a member of the Avery Island branch of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, was a catechism teacher and a member of the St. Marcellaus Church Choir. Flo also made wedding cakes and was known for her hand-made smocked dresses and Christening outfits with some being sold in England. She also enjoyed music, pokeno, bonco, a good bouree game and her favoritebingo!!
Mrs. DeRouen leaves to cherish her memory her sons and their wives, Adrian James and Rose LaBiche DeRouen of New Iberia, Keith Joseph and Linda Simon DeRouen of Pensacola, Florida, and Brent Joseph and Laurie Landry DeRouen of Spring, Texas. Her daughters are Belinda D. and her husband Carol J. Johnson of Coteau, and Anita D. Dupre of New Iberia.
Her grandchildren are Allison D. and Kerry Cranford of Luling, Erin D. and Brent Landsem of Oregon, Matthew DeRouen of St. Louis, Missouri, Darin Johnson of Coteau, Dr. Jennifer Dupre of Houston, Texas, Scott Dupre of New Iberia, Alicia DeRouen of Duson, Kymberlie DeRouen Guidry of Pearland, Texas, Trei DeRouen and Seth DeRouen of New Iberia. Her great-grandchildren are Emma DeRouen of Pearland, Texas, Kingston DeRouen of New Iberia, and Bentley Cranford of Luling.
Her siblings are Sara Gallineau of Georgia, Robert H. and Shirley DeRouen of Monroe, Connie D. and Kenwood Walker and Bonnie D. Segura of New Iberia. Her sister-in-laws are Eula Mae D. Viator of Lake Charles, Margarine D. Courville and Audrey D. Breaux of New Iberia. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius, her parents Frank Waguespack and Eula LeBlanc DeRouen, her sister Janice W. Walker, and her in-laws, Dutile and Sedonia DuBois DeRouen, Ron Gallineau, Louella D. and Francis Bonin, Sulie Viator, Georgie D. and Raymond Savin, and Erald Breaux.
Pallbearers will be Adrian, Keith, and Brent DeRouen, Carol Johnson, Matthew, Trei and Seth DeRouen, Darin Johnson and Scott Dupre.
