New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Francis L. Garon, 95, who passed away on Sunday, May 01, 2011 in New Iberia . Interment will ;follow at ;Holy Family Cemetery , with military honors conducted by the New Iberia VFW Post 1982. Rev. Charles Langlois will officiate.Born on February 8, 1916 , Mr. Garon was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II in the 8th Air Force based in England . A member of a ten man crew aboard a B-24 heavy bomber, he served as flight engineer and gunner, while conducting air raids over German occupied territories. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and a meritorious service award signed by 'Hop' Arnold, Commanding General of the Army Air Forces. Mr. Garon graduated from ULL, then SLI, in 1939 receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was a former employee of the New Iberia National Bank, and retired as an auditor with the Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation. Mr. Garon was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3425, the New Iberia VFW Post 1982, and the Civitan Club. He survived by his son, Francis A. Garon, Jr. of New Iberia; daughter, Mary Garon Ethridge of New Iberia; and a sister, Ella Mae Henderson of Huntington Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Allain Garon; parents, August and Ella Patin Garon; brother, Aust Garon, Jr.; step brother, Milton A. Petty. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:30 AM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Tuesday.
