New Iberia Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Fred Edler, Jr., 76, who died on Sunday, November 17, 2013 in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Deacon Theo Landry will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
Born on July 21, 1937 in Loreauville, Mr. Edler was the son of Fred Edler, Sr., and Annette St. Marie Edler. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, and became a fireman in 1961, and worked for the City of New Iberia for over 32 years. He served as Assistant Fire Chief from August 1987 until his retirement in May of 1993. In 1991 he received the Distinction for Outstanding Service Award from the American Heart Association, and then in 1992 he received the New Iberia VFW Post 1982 Fire Fighter of the Year Award. Mr. Edler enjoyed fishing, and woodworking.
Survivors include his daughters, Cissy E. Segura of New Iberia, Angela E. Chastant and husband Gerald Chastant, Jr. of Youngsville; sons, William B. Edler and wife Betsy of Youngsville, Mark J. Edler and wife Faye of New Iberia, Chriss E. Edler and wife Pam of New Iberia; sister, Jeanette E. Kleinpeter and husband Lee of New Iberia; 13 grandchildren, Barry Edler, Bethany Edler, Annie S. Decuir, Chloe Segura, Mallory E. Clark, Kyle Edler, Markie Edler, Ashley Lopez, Derrick Stevens, Ian Edler, Seth Chastant, Pierre Chastant, and Noah Chastant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Trahan Edler; a sister, Joann E. Herring; a brother, Billy St. Marie; and an infant son, Barry M. Edler.
Pallbearers will be William B. Edler, Mark J. Edler, Chriss E. Edler, Gerald Chastant, Jr., Kansas Hernandez, and Bethany Edler.
