Freda Garrett Harrison

St. Martinville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Notre Dame Catholic Church honoring the life of Freda Garrett Harrison, 91, a beloved educator and devoted member of the St. Martinville community, who passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center.

A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 AM on Saturday.

Rev. Abelardo Gabriel, SVD will officiate at the funeral mass.

Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Born on April 5, 1935, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Freda dedicated her life to the betterment of her students and the enrichment of her community.

Freda earned her Master's Degree in education and spent many years as a devoted teacher with the St. Martin Parish School Board, where she was known for her unwavering commitment to her students' success. In addition to her work in education, she was actively involved in adult education services, helping countless individuals achieve their educational goals. Her passion for learning and sharing knowledge extended beyond the classroom; she was a proud member of the National Association of University Women and served on the St. Martin Parish Library Board.

Freda's family business, Garrett Chicken Pies, was a cherished local establishment that brought joy to many. A devout member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, she was deeply involved in the parish community. Freda served on the Church Parish Council, was a member of the Association of the Sisters of The Blessed Sacrament, and volunteered tirelessly for annual church fair dinners and the CCD Communion program, embodying her faith and dedication to service.

She is survived by her daughter, Anyia (Jason) Chretien; grandchildren, Kolbe Chretien and Kylen Chretien; sisters, Betty Garrett and Dr. Aline Garrett; and her sister-in-law Gloria Garrett.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anatole and Aline Mitchell Garrett; brothers, Anatole Garrett, Jr., Milton Garrett and Emile Garrett; sister-in-law, Mary Ella Garrett.
