Gary Paul Bienvenu, Sr.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Gary Paul Bienvenu, Sr., 78, who passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9 am until 10 pm on Friday, and continue on Saturday at 7 am until 9:30 am at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be recited at 6 pm on Friday. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Lisa Russo and Danielle Broussard. Gift Bearers will be Heather Boggs, Davi Meche, and Jordan Theriot. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Mr. Bienvenu was a veteran of the Korean War having honorably served his country in the United States Army and the Louisiana National Guard. He was retired from law enforcement for the past 21 years and had previously served as the Chief of Police for the Village of Parks, where he served the citizens of the Parks community for 28 years. Gary was a longtime member of the Parks Jaycees, St. Joseph Catholic Church Choir, and umpired Little League Softball for many years. Gary loved sitting along the banks of the Bayou Teche and drinking and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Halphen Bienvenu of Parks; his children, Gary Bienvenu, Jr. and wife, Julie, of Katy, TX, Sharon Maturin and husband, Wayne, of St. Martinville, Marian Bienvenu and spouse, Ray Boyd, of New Iberia, son, Steven Bienvenu and girlfriend, Sunday Douglas, of Youngsville, and Chris Bienvenu and wife, Sheila of Henderson; nine grandchildren, Heather Boggs, Jordan Theriot, Davi Meche, Chelsey Bienvenu, Blaine Maturin, Blake Theriot, Christian Alombro, Zackary Bienvenu, and Jax Bienvenu; four great grandsons, Brylon Boggs, Braxton Boggs, Branson Boggs, and Ashton Theriot; two sisters, Mary Ann Ledbetter and Lisa Bienvenu; and his brother, Bradley Bienvenu and his wife, Hazel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Georgia Champagne Bienvenu; his brother, Gene Bienvenu; and a nephew, Kirk Bienvenu. Pallbearers will be Gary Bienvenu, Jr., Blake Theriot, Steven Bienvenu, Blaine Maturin, Chris Bienvenu, and Christian Bienvenu.
