Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at ;2:00 ;p.m., on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 , at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Genevieve M. Chauffe, 91, who passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center after a brief illness. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Gift Bearers will be her great grandchildren. Mrs. Chauffe was a lifelong resident of the Ruth area of St. Martin Parish. Jan, as she was known to her friends, retired from the St. Martin Parish School Board Lunchroom in 1976 after 20 years of service. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and in recent years she enjoyed going out on weekends and dancing to Cajun music. Survivors include her son, Robert Chauffe of Orlando, Florida; her daughter, Melanie Begnaud and her husband, Roland, of Breaux Bridge; her grandchildren, Jan Trahan and her husband, Jeff of Kaplan, Hoyt Begnaud and his wife, Holly, Brandon Begnaud and his wife, Amy of Breaux Bridge and Ashley Begnaud of Lafayette; her six beautiful great grandchildren, Seth Guillory, Alana, Hanna, Breanna, Blaise and Brandt Begnaud; her sister, Mrs. Eula Mae Perrodin of Breaux Bridge; and one niece, Carol Melancon. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 64 years, Rene Chauffe, Jr.; her parents, Alcee Melancon and Matthilde Blanchard; and one brother, Edwin Melancon. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2010 ;and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pallbearers will be Roland, Hoyt, Brandon and Ashley Begnaud, Jan and Jeff Trahan, and Seth Guillory. The family is grateful for the compassionate care given to her by the Louisiana Extended Care Hospital Staff (Lafayette General). The family would also like to thank Dr. Kenneth McCarron, her primary and long time physician, for providing untiring healthcare during her brief illness.
