St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Gerald 'Jay Boy' Joseph Guirard, 83, who passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at St. Martinville Rehab and Nursing Center. Entombment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. "Jay Boy loved people, enjoyed life and had a great sense of humor. He demonstrated an unending generosity toward his family, friends and employees". He was the founder, owner and president of Mid South Door Company from 1961 until his retirement in 2004. Jay Boy honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Survivors include his sons, E Eric Guirard and Gerald J. Guirard, Jr. both of Baton Rouge; his daughter, Donna G. Benda and her husband, Jeff of Little Rock, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Eason, Eden and J. T. Guirard and Kathryn and Tyler Benda. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edwina Chataignier Guirard; his parents, Clarence 'Cally' and Delphine Delaloire Guirard; his brothers and sisters, Wilhemina 'Bill' Ducrest, Marion G. Boggs, Clarence 'C.P.' Guirard, Lawrence 'Joe' Guirard, Connie G. Ducrest, Lillie G. Beslin and Joyce G. Fuselier; and his aunt and uncle who raised him and his siblings Lawrence 'Nacky' Guirard and Marie Delaloire Guirard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at time 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements. Family is requesting that donations be made to Alzheimers Services of the Capital Area.
