A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2026, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Peltier Delahoussaye, 92, who passed away on June 3rd. Msgr. Russell Harrington will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, June 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home; a rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m.
Miss Gerry was born on November 6, 1933, on Avery Island, Louisiana, to the late Adam and Enola (David) Peltier. She attended school in New Iberia, and in 1955, married Charles ‘Speedy’ Delahoussaye of New Iberia. Together they built a loving life and family, sharing 62 years of marriage until his passing in 2017. She was an active member of St. Peter's, serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and RCIA volunteer, guiding and sponsoring many individuals on their journey into the Catholic faith. She also dedicated many years of service as a volunteer at Mt. Carmel High School and Consolata Nursing Home. Miss Gerry enjoyed dancing, traveling, and hosting family get-togethers. With her wonderful sense of humor and radiant personality, she could light up any room she entered. She did everything with kindness, sincerity – and true Cajun joie de vivre. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Survivors include her sons, Charles L. Delahoussaye, Jr. (Mary) of New Iberia, and David Delahoussaye of New Iberia; daughters, Beth Comeaux of Lafayette, Donna Delahoussaye (Brian) of Lewiston, New York, and Patricia Delahoussaye of Lafayette; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Akers Delahoussaye of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law Ray Escuriex, Sr. of New Iberia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gerry was preceded in death by her precious son, John Delahoussaye, and her sisters Ruth Landry, Jeanette Deney, and Joyce Lungaro. Pallbearers will be Eric Comeaux, Dustin Lemaire, Jacob Bennett, Adam Delahoussaye, Evan Comeaux, Noah Gauthier, Nicholas Gauthier, and Brian Theriot.
The family would like to give special thanks to Davis Corbett, Rachel Hoffpauir, and the staff and residents of the Beehive Assisted Living Home in Youngsville, who made Miss Gerry a part of their family for the past 7 years; and Torie Olivier and her staff, for their devoted and compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Diner, P.O. Box 9290, New Iberia, LA 70562, or Catholic High, Development Dept, 1301 De LaSalle Drive, New Iberia, LA 70560.
