Gertrude, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong educator, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Gertrude was born on January 12, 1936, in Alexandria, Louisiana.

She had a deep love for horses that began in childhood. Beyond her love for her horses, she found joy in music, especially her prized violins and found her passion for the quiet beauty of painting and the arts. She sang in the San Antonio symphony and never shied away from singing when she felt compelled.

She earned her bachelor's in education and a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master's in English from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

Gertrude dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing minds, spending the majority of her career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she inspired generations of students with her wisdom and patience.

She was a brilliant soul - witty, assertive, and determined to impart her creativity and who she was to all who knew her.

She was married to her devoted husband, Buddy, for 53 years - a partnership marked by love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life rooted in family.

She was preceded in death by her cherished son, Paul Eddy, and her loving parents, Bert and Grace Lusted.

Her memory lives on through her husband Buddy; her son, David, and his wife, Michelle; her five grandchildren: Lauren, Ethan, Michael, Adam, and Emma; and her three great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Elyza, and Elyana, whom she dearly loved.
Pallbearers will be David Eddy, Ethan Eddy, Michael Eddy, Adam Eddy, Drake Menard, and Layton Eddy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to their church of choice for a Mass to be said in memory of Gertrude.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to River Oaks Retirement Manor staff and Heart of Hospice for the exceptional care given to her.

Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
